Yves-Thomas Dorval named president of the Conseil du patronat du Québec – as the organization celebrates its 40th anniversary

Among others, he succeeds Michel Kelly-Gagnon, Gilles Taillon and Ghislain Dufour. CPQ chair John LeBoutillier made the announcement today.

"Mr. Dorval's vast experience and merits will make him an excellent employers' ambassador to government and representative in major public debates. We are pleased he has chosen to put his talents to the benefit of the CPQ and its mission," said Mr. LeBoutillier.

An experienced manager

Yves-Thomas Dorval has more than 25 years of experience in public affairs. He returns to Canada in 2009 from London as Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, Europe Region, for the British American Tobacco Group, a world leader in manufacturing. Previously, he led the public affairs team of its subsidiary in Canada, based in Montreal.

In prior years, Mr. Dorval held senior positions in Quebec, including: vice-president of an international public relations firm (Edelman Canada), director of a managed care division for a pharmaceutical company (Glaxowellcome Canada) and head of strategic planning and restructuring for a leading personal insurance company (Groupe Desjardins-Laurentienne). He also worked in the public sector for the Government of Quebec, the Commission of Inquiry into Health and Social Services, and at Hydro-Quebec.

"Employers are the first generators of wealth in Quebec, and it is with great enthusiasm that I have decided to accept the presidency of the CPQ and work in cooperation with our partners to defend employer needs and concerns. While being at the service of employers is in itself a worthy cause, it is the scope and diversity of the work to be accomplished that also make this position of such interest to me," said the new president of the employers federation.

The arrival of Mr. Dorval to the CPQ management team coincides with the 40th anniversary of the organization, which was founded in 1969. He will take office on Monday, March 30, 2009.

The Conseil du patronat du Québec brings together many of the province's largest companies, as well as the vast majority of sector-based employers' associations, making it the sole employers' confederation in Quebec.
